Thoughts

As a student, early in my elementary school career, my passion for reading ended. The lack of choice and limited exposure to a variety of different texts turned me off and it stayed that way for a long timeblogEntryTopper
Although I did enjoy some of the required reading in high school, I didn’t pick up another book for pleasure until sometime in University.

My late father, an avid reader, got me hooked on non-fiction texts with John Krakauer’s
Into Thin Air. I loved it! Then I read David Brashere’s, High Exposure and loved it too. From that point on, I have never looked back. I found my niche and now almost exclusively read non-fiction texts for enjoyment.

Strangely enough, my favourite children’s books are fiction, simply because there are no non-fiction texts for children aged 0-3. I find this to be troublesome and it is a trend that we need to change. Here at Bitty Bio, we want a Non-Fiction Revolution. There is a need for factual and informational reading to start at an early age. This type of reading stimulates the development of new vocabulary, provides more options for background knowledge and increases comprehension skills. Join me in a couple weeks when I take a deeper look
into Non-Fiction Exposure.
